Bowie is a Wild Mustang from the Modoc National Forest in Modoc County, CA. He was acquired in 2021 as a 4-month-old. In December of 2022, Bowie fell ill. A veterinarian initially diagnosed him with colic, but this diagnosis was questioned due to the presence of manure in his stall.

Bowie was taken to the vet and stayed there for four days. Further examinations revealed he had massive ulcers, which were treated with ulcer medication for a month. Upon re-evaluation, he was cleared, and preventive measures were implemented to manage the condition.
